God's Word gives us an important lesson about
how we use our tongues when we speak of or to others. Take a look at this
verse:
With the tongue we praise our
Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's
likeness. –James
3:9 (NIV) |
Had you ever given that any thought? If not, now's
the time to do so.
Take the time to read the surrounding passage
in your Bible–James
3:7-18. In verse
8, we are warned that our tongue can be full of deadly poison–not
the kind of poison you drink, but the kind of words which hurt others and
ourselves. And in verse
15, the Bible tells us that this sort of talk comes from the
devil! And don't forget that the point of verse
9 above is that we should remember that others are made in God's
likeness, just like we are. That's serious business! If we claim to love
and praise God, then we also have to be careful what we say to and about
others. So watch your tongue!
