Recently, my husband had a nasty fall and broke his leg. The break was such a bad one that a complicated surgery was required. A good friend of ours advised us of the best doctor for this malady. This particular doctor had the reputation of repairing the impossible. It went a long way in putting our minds at ease when we secured "the best" orthopedic surgeon in the area for his surgery.

The truth is, we all desire to have the best. When we make purchases, we select the best that is available, according to what we can afford. We seek the best deal for our money. We look for the best car and home that we can afford. We like to live in the best neighborhood possible. When we spend time with others, we spend the most time with our "best" friends because, well, they're the best. When we select a spouse, we most definitely select the one we believe is the best. We seek the best teachers for our children and the best doctors for our families. And when we attain the best in any given category, it gives us a sense of peace. But all of these things won't matter one iota as far as eternity is concerned.

What we need is the best savior. In fact, not only is there a best savior, but there is actually only one. His name is Jesus. And He is available for anyone who wishes to have the best.

What makes Jesus the best? Just for starters, He is the Son of God (Matthew 3:17; Matthew 17:5; Hebrews 1:1-2; Hebrews 4:14). He is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is the radiance of God's glory and is the exact representation of His being (Hebrews 1:3-4). He is the Creator (John 1:3; Hebrews 1:1-2) and sustains all things (Hebrews 1:3). He is the firstborn over all creation (Colossians 1:15), and the heir of all things (Hebrews 1:1-2). Jesus is much superior to the angels (Hebrews 1:4), and is sinless (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 John 3:5). And yet, being in very nature God, Jesus cared enough about us to make himself nothing (Philippians 2:5-8). He died for us. He is the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2; 1 John 4:10). He sacrificed Himself once for all (Hebrews 7:27; Hebrews 9:24-28; Hebrews 10:10; 1 Peter 3:18). He alone provided purification for our sins (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is the Messiah (Christ) (John 1:41), the Savior (Luke 2:11), the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14). Jesus is the ruler of the kings of the earth (Revelation 1:5). He has the authority to judge (John 5:27). Indeed, He has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). The Bible is full of magnificent and amazing things about Jesus. And there are so many more wonderful things about Jesus that they could never all be put onto paper because, well, He is simply The Best.

If you don't already have Jesus for your Savior, won't you give Him some thought? Consider the fact that eternity is a long time–it will never end. Remember that no matter how many of "the best" things you have in this life, you won't be taking them with you into eternity. No matter what your circumstances are in this earthly life, though, you can have The Best throughout eternity. His name is Jesus. And He is available to everyone who seeks Him. Look to Him for your salvation. Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior, and He is The Best.
