He Loves Us--by Kimberly B. Southall
Love. What a special word. It can mean all sorts of different things. But the true meaning of "love" is found in the Bible.

The Bible tells us that God is love. You can find that verse at 1 John 4:16. The Bible also tells us what love really is:

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. --1 John 4:10 NIV

And it tells us how much God loves us:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. --John 3:16-17 NIV

Wow! Isn't that wonderful!? God loved us enough to send His only Son to die for all of the bad things we have done so that we can still have a way to be with Him forever! What a wonderful love that is.

The Bible also teaches us something else important about love:

We love because he first loved us. --1 John 4:19 NIV

By giving us His love, God made it possible for us to love Him and others, too. How wonderful God made it for us. Not only does He love us more than we can imagine, but He also made it possible for us to love Him back and love others.

It is all possible because He loves us!
