Forgiven--by Timothy A. Southall

I heard his satanic laugh and saw his devilish smile.
He was full of hatred and everything cruel and vile.

Satan said, “You’ll always belong to me.
You can only put forth a guilty plea.”

You have crucified God’s only begotten Son.
Shamefully, I could not deny what I had done.

I had a hammer in one hand and a nail in the other.
I’d done it myself and could not blame it on another.

Satan then went on to remind me of each and every sin.
And when I thought he was finished, he just started over again.

With my eyes full of tears and my heart full of grief,
I looked up at God’s Son and my heart filled with belief.

His eyes were full of endless love.  His face shone with mercy, and grace.
I cried, “I repent.  Please forgive me for putting you in this place!”

I proclaimed to the world that Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
Satan yelled, “You can’t–because of your sinful behavior!”

I was washed by His blood in the watery grave.
I was set free and was no longer Satan’s slave.

Jesus then said, “I have forgiven all that you have done.
This is My grace, for I am God’s only begotten Son.”

Jesus further instructed, “Stand firm to the end.
On that great glorious day, for you I will send.”
